[He settles in, shuffling the deck, and then cutting it.]

I'm gonna do a Past, Present and Future spread. Pretty simple.

Sounds simple enough.

[She doesn't expect it to be particularly meaningful, she's a bit of a skeptic. But she'll still humor Ren's attempts.]

[He lays out the three cards, and flips the first]

Past. Six of Swords. Transition. Moving forward from loss. Leaving behind the tragedy and towards something more stable. Hope for a better future.

Present. The Tower... attempts at knowledge are leading down dark paths. The old systems must be destroyed if there's any hope for a future. The best options are to look inwards instead of focusing on the external.

...Future. Nine of Swords. Fear of failure. Being overwhelmed with guilt. Your worst enemy is yourself. With the current path you will be overwhelmed with regret and self-loathing...

[It's certainly in his skill set to have stacked the deck. He did it against Stan, after all. But the look on his face seems to discount that. Or he's the world's best actor]

[Either of those options are possible, and Red would certainly like to believe they're true. It's easier than admitting that this fortune magic is real, even if she knows magic is real already.]

To be fair, you already knew my past.

[And her future is not hard to guess. But that present...]

True. The cards are suggestions. How I read them is going to be filtered by what I know and feel.

So they're more like a tool to tell me truths that I may not otherwise be receptive to?

[he grins]

I mean, of course I'm biased. But, Red... this has been going for years now. You said your self that even if we do survive our best bet is to just hire in.

It's a self perpetual cycle. Putting a bandaid on a bullet hole. It can't keep going like this.
