You're correct, but you're not thinking on the right scale here.
When a single worker's company car breaks down because his boss didn't clear it for regular maintenance, and as a result the worker becomes disgruntled, is that your grandfather's fault? Was your grandfather, or even the direct boss of that worker, maliciously trying to upset that worker?
Might you be suggesting that whomever is controlling Sol might be someone disgruntled with your organization? Or someone working independently from it, with the freedom they've been given?
But routinely killing your employees is a very bad business practice.
[she remembers, Talcott and the others'. . . their pleas for the campers to help Sol. she remembers their crying form in the Metaverse, how Sol had pleaded them not to kill him]
[that actually gets her to relax, shoulders slumping, intense expression softening]
Killing Sol may condemn our comrades.
[and yeah, sometimes sacrifices have to be made for the good of the whole, but. . .]
You said your organization had a deal with Sol, yes? Can you tell me the nature of that deal? Perhaps therein lies an answer to containing Sol's hungry nature without resorting to killing them.
[She REALLY doesn't want to, but. Well. Mitsuru is just trying to help.]
The stone god was rapidly expanding its territory, and our deal with the stone god keeps it contained here. In exchange for not expanding and taking over the whole planet, we do this ritual for it. My organization has decided that sacrificing people to it in this fashion is preferable to letting it expand its territory.
If we put our heads together, I'm sure we can come up with an alternate plan. Everyone still alive-- we wish to rescue our comrades who have passed on. We wish to return their souls to their body, and bring them back to us.

[she says that, straight up, flat out, without beating around the bush]
Those mistakes he made are the ones I am trying to atone for now.

There must be another way.

. . . if there were another way to feed it that doesn't involve this ritual or allowing it to consume the entire planet, then. . .
[she trails off]

That isn't a goal any of us can simply give up.
