If kids are gonna die...then I need to know why. I know there's some kinda government thing involved - I remember sitting across some nerd in a room and being called an 'ess-cee-pee' with a buncha numbers after that, so...
Please, Red. If you can't do it for me, then...do it for Mabel.
...Red, You said you read my file or whatever. I've seen more weird shit than most people have in their lifetimes. I lived through a bunch of extra-dimensional weirdos making a massive chair outta people who turned into stone.
Maybe this is worse - but I can handle it. Trust me.
The 'stone god', as the other SCPs in the area call it, infects people by putting small bits of itself into any living creature and slowly taking control over it. The process takes years- it took Dan nearly ten to become what he was right before he died- but eventually anyone who is infected will become entirely made out of Petoskey stone.
The 'stone god' can use its powers to slowly spread and infect the whole world, should it choose to do so. We keep it contained here by offering it sacrifices each year to keep it entertained. Around thirty or so campers every year, and the 'stone god' doesn't spread it's influence beyond this small bit of the forest.
We knowingly bring children here to die, in order to keep the rest of the world from becoming infected. everyone here at this camp is infected, including us. We get more time, but within a few years we will be just like Dan was, if not worse.
[And honestly, she's not sure which part of the deal is worse. She almost can't wait for the day she doesn't have to remember what she's done here.]
I'm sorry, Stan. I wish I could say something better, but that's the truth of our situation.
So, this stone...has anyone tried - you know. Taking it out? Breaking it, or something? Hell, I killed that extradimensional being I was talking about by having him possess me and then shooting my noggin with a memory eraser gun.
[...]
Actually, I don't remember that too good. Some things are still kind of fuzzy with that whole situation - the point is, I've seen what you can do, Red. You got...some kinda powers, that's for sure. Powers that being woulda killed to have. And you never tried taking this god thing out?
[You think she would fall into despair without giving it a shot?]
The first couple of years, I tried to talk to it through the dead campers. I even tried to talk to it through Dan. But it always kept up the same act. I think it's toying with me, honestly.
Stan, the Foundation won't let us just git rid of it. We have to convince them that the stone is so dangerous that the only choice we have is to destroy it.

I won't ask 'how', since I finally did read your file. But what did you want to talk about?

Are you sure you want to know? You resist mind-altering drugs, I can't make you forget the truth if it's too much for you.
